  1. In Nature’s Eternal Religion, Klassen tries to lay out the theory that both the Union and the Confederacy were Jew-backed and Jew-controlled. He provides no evidence of this besides the details in this passage:

“In the North they had their man, August Belmont, a Jew, who, in league with Samuel B. Chase, the Secretary of the Treasury, was in charge of the Rothchild interests.”

But the truth is that one of these men is not Jewish and the other was an enemy of Lincoln and did not tangibly aid the North.

As a delegate to the pivotal, but soon violently-split 1860 Democratic National Convention in Charleston, South Carolina, Belmont supported influential U.S. Senator Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois, (who had triumphed in the famous 1858 Lincoln-Douglas Debates over his long-time romantic and political rival, the newly recruited Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln, in their battle for Douglas’s Senate seat).

Belmont also helped organize the Democratic Vigilant Association, which sought to promote unity by promising Southerners that New York businessmen would protect the rights of the South and keep free-soil members out of office.

And Salmon* P.* Chase was not a Jew. Klassen got that one conspicuously wrong.

I think these false claims first originated in The Dispossessed Majority by Wilmot Robertson (1972), which Klassen must have read just before writing N.E.R.
